VanDoren - Lindner
Of course the lines listed under Norwegian and German links above branch out as we go higher up the "tree" and so many more surnames are added to our lineage. The too are our grandparents but rather than create separate pages for each line up (too confusing), I will include them as best I can until it gets unruly.
Note: When I say "unknown spouse" below, it's only that they are unknown by me. I have not yet taken the time to research spouses in some cases.
VanDoren
My first great grandfather on my dad's side, John Grossmick, married Stella VanDoren. This name is alternately spelled Van Doran, Vandorn or Van Doren, and I guess that depended on who was doing the writing. Stella was born in Pennsylvania the youngest of 10 children to Theodore VanDoren and Rachel Lindner. I can't find much on Theodore's life except that he was a carpenter in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. He was 36 years old when he registered for the draft in 1863. There are quite a few leads as to his parentage but I cannot be sure which is correct, yet. Stella's mother Rachael Lindner however comes from a line of interesting people which I shall go into below. They attended St John's Lutheran Church in Tamaqua and spoke German, as did most of the town then.
